The Little Things...

Guidelines

As students are required to work together in a group environment, there are some important skills that, when implemented, will lead to a better and more efficient and productive group environment.

Listening Skills: It is important to hear people out, regardless of what they have to say. Let them exhaust their opinion. This is especially important when dealing with people who may not have the same belief or commitment to the movement that you may have.

Changing Strategies: It may be required to implement another strategy and focus on the area where successes are easiest. Sometimes if people are reluctant to consider your ideas, rather than continuing on trying to convince these people, go somewhere else, where they might be more likely to consider your ideas. You will probably find that when this is successful, the original people may decide they like your idea after all.

Keep the goal in sight: Sometimes it is easy to get caught up in the minor details that may not be all that important in the long run. Keep the end product in sight, and work towards that goal. The smaller details of how you got there, and whose idea it may or may not have been, will not be all that important in the end.

Have Fun: This is essential. The competition is designed to raise the awareness and implementation of sustainability in a fun and relaxed environment. Achieving this goal may be challenging at times, but it is also important that the fun aspect is kept a strong part of the competition.
